England international Rachel Bell from Ganton shot a two-under-par 66 to be the leading qualifier for the Golf Monthly Trophy over the Strathtyrum course at the start of the St Andrews Links Trust's open junior women's scratch match-play tournament.
Carly Booth, the 11-year-old five-handicapper from Comrie, had the 10th best gross score of 75 but scratched her name from the qualifiers as she has accepted an invitation to take part in the pro-am curtain-raiser on Wednesday to the Weetabix Women's British Open championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
Many followers of the game thought that Carly should have entered the two-day BP Scottish Under-21 girls' open championship which begins at Kilmacolm on Tuesday.
