JENNA SETS THE UNDER-21 PACE AT KILMACOLM
Jenna Wilson from Strathaven set the first-round pace in the BP Scottish Under-21 girls' open stroke-play golf championship at Kilmacolm today.
Miss Wilson, bound for San Diego State University next month, shot a one-under-par 71 to open up a two-shot advantage in the 54-hole tournament.
Jenna birdied the first, seventth, 14th and 15th in halves of 34 (one under par) and 37 (level). She had bogeys at the third, 12th and 18th.
Disputing second place on 73 were 14-year-old Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) and Heather MacRae (Dunblane New).
Miss Caithness (St Regulus) had three birdies in halves of 37 (two over) and 36 (one under), picking up 2s at short second and 12th and a 4 at the long seventh.
Her bogeys came at the first, fourth, eighth, ninth and 16th.
Heather MacRae (Dunblane New), also heading for San Diego State University and set to gain her first full cap for Scotland in September's women's home internationals at Cruden Bay, was not on song in an outward 38 (three over par) with bogeys at the second, sixth, seventh and eighth and only one birdie, at the fifth.
But Miss MacRae, who drove up to Kilmacolm on Monday night after just failing to survive the Weetabix Women's British Open final qualifying at Fairhaven, got her act together on the inward half. She birdied the 11th, 13th and 14th and only a bogey at the 16th robbed her of second place on her own at lunchtime.
