JENNA WINS PLAY-OFF FOR BP
UNDER-21 GIRLS' TITLE
Jenna Wilson, 19-year-old Strathaven player, birdied the first extra hole of a play-off against close friend Heather MacRae (Dunblane New) to win the BP Scottish Under-21 girls' open stroke-play golf championship at Kilmacolm on Wednesday.
Sharing the overnight lead at level par for the first 36 holes, Jenna and Heather, both returned one-over-par 73s for the final round to total one-over-par 217.
They are both going to San Diego State University on golf scholarships next month.
"I'm stunned. It's my first national title and I don't know what to say. I'm speechless," said Jenna who was four strokes clear of Heather with six holes to play.
Then Miss MacRae, a former BP Scottish Under-18 girls' match-play champion, got an eagle 3 at the 13th and a birdie 4 at the 14th.
When Jenna had her first bogey of the round, missing the green at the 16th, the pair were level again. Then both bogeyed the 17th and parred the last, Heather holing a knee-knocker from 4ft to force a play-off.
At the first extra hole, Heather was short of the green in two and pitched to 5ft but Jenna holed a 20ft putt for a birdie 3 to win the title.
Defending champion Kelly Brotherton (Tulliallan) shaved a stroke off the women's course record with a closing round of four-under-par 68. That lifted her up into third place on 218, one shot off the pace.
