NORTHERN COUNTIES HEAD FOR SCOTTISH
WOMEN'S TITLE AT SCOTSCRAIG
Northern Counties are set to regain the Scottish women's county golf championship title they last won in 2000.
The Highland lasses followed up their opening day 5-4 win over joint favourites Fife at Scotscraig, Tayport by with a resounding 7 1/2-1 1/2 win over Ayrshire, the West Division champions playing in the finals for the first time in over 30 years.
Fife led Borders 3-0 after the foursomes in their match.

Foursomes _ L Keohone & A Thompson lost to L Mackay & M Smith 4 and 2; R Kennedy & M McQueen lost to L McKinnon & J Milne 5 and 3; L Hendry & G Lockhart beat C Gruber & P Mackay 3 and 2 (1-2).
Singles _ C Taylor lost to L Mackay 4 and 3, Keohone lost to Gruber 4 and 3, J Finnie lost to McKinnon 6 and 5, Lockhart lost to K Harper 1 hole, McQueen lost to P McLennan 6 and 5, Hendry halved with Milne (1/2-5 1/2).
BORN-AGAIN AMATEUR VIVIEN SAUNDERS JUST
FAILS TO WIN FIRST ENGLISH SENIORS TITLE
Vivien Saunders from Cambridge, a professional golfer for over 30 years and reinstated as an amateur just in time to play in the inaugural English senior women's championship at Ilkley Golf Club, Yorkshire, lost on the last green in the final on Saturday.
Vivien, 56-year-old founder of the Women's PGA in Europe in 1978 and winner of the British Women's Open in 1977, went under by one hole to local player, Adele Mitchell (Keighley) in the 18-hole final.
Vivien was the 15th qualifier for the match-play stages; Adele the 13th.
Earlier this year, Miss Saunders was a vociferous critic of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club's refusal to admit lady members.
