TWO SCOTS IN GB TEAM FOR NZ
Two Scots - champion Anne Laing and Lynn Kenny - have been named by the Ladies Golf Union selection committee in a team of five to represent Great Britain in the Commonwealth tournament at Remeura Golf Club, New Zealand from November 4 to 8.
A third Scot - Strathclyde University student Clare Queen (Drumpellier) - was unavailable because of her studies. Clare, Anne, Lynn and Vikki Laing were members of the GB&I team who won the Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe at Co Louth, Ireland in July. Vikki has decided her future lies in the pro ranks so she too was unavailable for selection to the team for New Zealand.
Other notable absentees are Becky Brewerton (Abergele) and Danielle Masters (Bearsted) who are turning professional sooner rather than later.
The squad will stay on to compete in the New Zealand women's open amateur championship at Mount Maunganui Golf Club from November 10 to 14.
The team, under the captaincy of Pam Benka, is:
Anna Highgate (Cottrell Park).
Lynn Kenny (Stirling University).
Anne Laing (Vale of Leven).
Shelley McKevitt (Reading).
Kate Phillips (Creigiau).
Reserves
1 Sophie Walker (Kenwick Park).
2 Sarah Jones (Pennard).
3 Kerry Smith (Waterlooville).
