VIVIEN SAUNDERS THROUGH TO FINAL OF
FIRST ENGLISH SENIOR CLOSE CHAMPIONSHIP

Reinstated amateur Vivien Saunders, seldom out of headlines with her criticism of the R &A for a spell a few months back, is making news again ... but this time the 56-year-old founder of the Women's PGA (European Tour) in 1978, is letting her clubs do the talking.
Vivien, who qualified for the match-play stages in 15th place, is through to Saturday morning's final of the first English senior women's close amateur championship at Ilkley Golf Club.
Miss Saunders (Cambridge), winner of the British Women's Open in 1977, will meet Adele Mitchell (Keighley), the 13th qualifier, in the 18 hole final.
