ENGLISH WOMEN'S MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

FAME ENDS AMATEUR CAREER WITH A TITLE

Fame More (Chesterfield), a member of this year's Great Britain & Ireland Curtis Cup team, won the English women's mid-amateur championship at Moor Park Golf Club on Friday.
She beat Kerry Smith (Waterlooville), who was a team-mate of Fame's in the 2002 Curtis Cup match at Fox Chapel, Pittsburg, by 2 and 1 in the 18-hole final.
This is expected to be Fame's last appearance as an amateur golfer. She failed to get through the Qualifying School to the European Ladies' Tour last year but is going to have another go.
In the semi-finals, Kerry Smith beat Faye Sanderson (Heworth) at the 19th while Fame beat Julie Ross (Whitley Bay) on the 16th green.
In the final, Fame was two holes up after three, having birdied the second and the third. All the holes were then halved until Kerry won the 16th, Fame having bunkered her drive and Kerry making a good recovery from the trees.
At the 17th, Kerry took three to get on the green after being blocked out of a direct shot at the green by a tree. Fame was on in two.
Final (18 holes): Fame More (Chesterfield) beat Kerry Smith (Waterlooville) 2 and 1.
