GIRLS' HOME INTERNATIONALS AT STRATHAVEN

ENGLAND GIRLS HAMMER SCOTS
Scotland's Under-18 girls golf team suffered one of their heaviest defeats at the hands of England in recent years when they were beaten 7 1/2-1 1/2 by the defending champions and title favourites on the second day of the girls' home golf internationals at Strathaven Golf Club on Thursday.
Because of the threat of rain, the normal pattern of foursomes in the morning, singles in the afternoon was reversed. England, with a particularly strong-in-depth line-up this year, simply outclassed Scotland in the singles, winning five of the six by comfortable margins.
Scotland's only morning winner was Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle) who beat professional's daughter Florentyna Parker (Royal Birkdale) by 3 and 2.
In the afternoon foursomes, Scottish Under-16 and Under-18 champion Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) and Gemma Webster (Hilton Park) salvaged half-a-point for the Scots by holding English Under-18 champion Melissa Reid (Chevin) and Claire Aitken (Mid-Kent) to a square match.
Ireland trailed Wales 4-2 after the singles but made a clean sweep of the three foursomes to achieve a 5-4 victory, leaving Scotland as the only country without a point going into their final match against Wales.
