GIRLS' HOME INTERNATIONALS AT STRATHAVEN

SCOTLAND LAST AS DEFEATED ENGLAND TAKE TITLE

Scotland finished bottom of the table without a win over the three-day programme of the girls' home golf international matches at Strathaven yesterday (Friday). After defeats by Wales (5-4) and England (7 1/2-1 1/2), the Scots were well beaten, 7-2, by Ireland.
Only Rachael Livingstone (Musselburgh) and Gemma Webster (Hilton Park) managed to win in the morning singles which the Irish took 4-2 before making a 3-0 clean sweep of the afternoon foursomes.
Wales finished on a high by becoming the first team to beat defending champions England but their 5-4 scoreline was not enough to deprive the English of the Under-18 girls' title for the fifth year in a row.
England, Ireland and Wales all finished with two wins out of three. The tie-breaker was individual games won and England's 17 1/2pt gave them first place ahead of the Irish (15pt) and Wales (14pt).
The player of the tournament was Ireland's champion, Tara Delaney from Carlow. She won all six games she played. Next best was England's Felicity Johnson from Harborne with 5 1/2pt out of a possible six.Scotland's most successful player was Gemma Webster with 3 1/2pt out of six.
