IT’S ANYBODY’S TITLE ON LAST
DAY AT HIGH POST
There is everything to play for on the final day of the English women’s county championship finals at High Post Golf Club, Salisbury.
Warwickshire, Hampshire, Glamorgan and Yorkshire each have one victory and one defeat to their credit following Thursday’s results which were:
Warwickshire 5, Hampshire 4 and Glamorgan 5, Yorkshire 4.
On Wednesday, the results were:
Glamorgan 2, Hampshire 7 and Warwickshire 4, Yorkshire 5.
So that means Friday’s final-day line-up is:
Warwickshire v Glamorgan and Hampshire v Yorkshire.
There were two holes in one at the 11th during the morning foursomes.
The first was achieved by Layla Ahmed (Hampshire) and in the next match by Naomi Edwards (Yorkshire). Strangely enough, neither ace helped their partnership to win.
Warwickshire, who trailed 2-1 to Hampshire after the foursomes, hit back with four wins in the singles to take the match 5-4.
The Yorkshire v Glamorgan match all hinged on the last match between Rachael Lomas and Denise Richards. The tie went to the 20th where Denise won to give Glamorgan a 5-4 victory.
Denise, an ex-international golfer, has been playing county golf since the mid-1980s. Recap on the results so far:
