LPGA TOUR: STATE FARM CLASSIC

VIKKI ONE OVER PAR BUT TIED FOR 89TH
Former Curtis Cup player Vikki Laing from Musselburgh shot a one-over-par 73 in the first round of the State Farm Classic at Springfield, Illinois.
This is only the second LPGA tournament she has been able to get into in her rookie season as a pro.
Lack of competitive play showed most in the San Francisco-based Scot's driving. She hit only four fairways - average drive 256yd - but recovered well enough to make 14 of the greens in regulation.
Vikki had only 31 putts as she birdied the second, fourth and eighth but bogeyed the third, fifth, 12th and 18th.
So high is the standard on the world's No 1 female pro tour that Vikki is back in a tie for 89th place and will need to shoot under par in the second round to survive the halfway cut.
She failed by one shot to make the last two rounds in her LPGA debut earlier in the season.
