CATHY PANTON-LEWIS WINS A
FEW DOLLARS MORE IN JAPAN
Cathy Panton-Lewis finished joint 17th and earned $8,200 in the Senior World Women’s Open championship at Izu Country Club, Japan.
Cathy had rounds of 77 and 73 for a 36-hole final total of six-over-par 150.
Ai-Yu Tu (Taiwan), a dominant player on the Japanese LPGA Tour during the 1980s, showed she could still play a fine game of golf with rounds of 68 and 66 for a 10-under tally of 134.
She ran away with the $25,000 first prize by eight shots from American Cindy Rarick.
The $300,000 tournament was sponsored by Japanese philantrophist Haruhisa Itanda (a sighted person) to promote awareness of blind golf, not only in Japan but internationally.
The event is part of the World Senior Women’s Golf Tour which is in its third season and is open to female professionals over the age of 45. It has four events on its schedule this year.
