JULIE WINS ABERDEENSHIRE TITLE IN RAIN

Julie Henderson from Inverurie won the Aberdeenshire women’s county title for the second time in three years when she beat teenager Laura Murray (Alford) by 7 and 6 in the final at rain-lashed Murcar today.
Laura, only 16 years of age, did well to beat the county’s other top prospect Michele Thomson (Ellon) in the morning semi-finals, but her lack of experience in bad-weather conditions made it a one-sided final.
Miss Murray did win the first but then lost the second and third to be one down after three.
Miss Henderson, 29, playing in her third county final in four years, won six holes in a row from the sixth to be seven up and a half at the short 12th ended the contest.
