FIONA DE VRIES POSTS EARLY CLUBHOUSE TARGET
On a lovely, sunny day for the second qualifying round, St Andrews hotelier Fiona De Vries (St Rule) posted the early clubhouse target of 167 after a second-day 77, which represented a 13-shot improvement on her first round.
Christine Middleton (Cruden Bay) (90-81), Tracy Laughland (Mortonhall) (90-81), Pat Hutton (Lanark) (90-81) and Jenny Jenkins (Ralston) (89-82) were next on 171.
Pam Mackay (Royal Dornoch) had a disappointing championship with scores of 91 and 85 for 176 which had no chance of putting her among the 32 players who will qualify for the match-play stages of the championship.
Aileen Hunter (Monifieth) (90-86) also totalled 176.
First-round leaders Clare Queen (Drumpellier) and 13-year-old Sally Watson (Elie & Earlsferry), playing with third-placed Martine Pow (Selkirk) went out around 2pm and were not expected back in before 6.30pm.
