BP SLGA GIRLS INTER-DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
EAST MEETS WEST IN GIRLS' FINAL
East will play West in the final of the inaugural Scottish Ladies Golfing Association girls' inter-divisional team golf championship over the Ballumbie Castle course, near Dundee on Sunday morning (10.30am).
Each semi-final was decided on three foursomes and East beat North 2-1 while West beat South 3-0.
East, whose line-up included Sally Watson (Elie & Earlsferry), the 13-year-old South Queensferry girl who reached the semi-finals of the Scottish women's championship at Cruden Bay last month, and her sister Rebecca were the pre-tournament favourites but North pushed them hard.
Sally Watson and Rachael Livingstone won the decisive tie, beating Rebecca Wilson and Sally Kettlewell by 3 and 2 after being pulled back to all square at the 12th. Rebecca and Sally three-putted the 10th and 11th to let Sally and Rachael off with halves but drew level by winning the 12th.
The East pair then dovetailed well to win the 13th, 15th and 16th.
Michele Thomson and Laura Murray, the strongest of North's three partnerships, played well in winning by 4 and 3 over Jane Turner and Amanda Edwards.
Rebecca Watson and Hannah Harvey established a big lead early on against Ashton Ingram and Michelle McDonald and never looked back, going on to win by 6 and 5. In fairness to Ashton, she had not been feeling well before she set off on the journey to Dundee from Fort William but did not want to let the side down by calling off.
West had two big-margin foursomes winners against - Megan Briggs and Debbie Neilson who won by 6 and 4, and Morag McPherson and Pamela Pretswell who won by 7 and 5.
North and South will play off for third place as East and West contest the first final in this new championship which is sponsored by BP.
