BRITISH WOMEN'S OPEN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

ALL FIVE SCOTS MAKE IT
THROUGH TO LAST 32
All five Scots who qualified for the match-play stages of the Tropicana Essentials British women’s open amateur golf championship won their first round ties to reach the last 32 at Littlestone Golf Club, Kent today.
Three times Scottish champion Anne Laing (Vale of Leven) came back from two down at the turn, to beat Stephanie Doering (Germnay) with a 35ft birdie putt at the 19th hole.
Kylie Walker (Stirling University) also went into extra holes before beating Natascha Duvalois (Netherlands) at the 20th.
Jenna Wilson (Strathaven) won by 3 and 2 against Thea Hoffmesiter (Germany).
Clare Queen (Drumpellier), the leading Scottish qualifier, had a good 2 and 1 win over the highly-rated Spanish younger Belen Moxo.
Heather MacRae (Dunblane New) won by 3 and 2 over Ireland’s Heather Nolan who finished second after a play-off in the recent St Rule Trophy tournament at St Andrews.
Laing, Wilson, Queen and MacRae are members of the Scotland team of six to compete in the European women’s team championship in Sweden in early July. Walker is one of the reserves.
