EUROPEAN SENIOR WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
MOIRA LYING NINTH AT CHANTILLY
North Berwick's Moira Thomson, the only Scots woman competing, is lying joint ninth with one round to go in the European women's senior amateur championship at Chantilly, France.
Moira has had rounds of 82 and 79 for 161.
Cecilia Mourgue d'Algue (France), a multi-winner of the title, looks liking adding to her tally of wins. She is four clear of the field after good, solid scores of 76 and 75 for five-over-par 151. Her nearest rival is Sweden's Maj-Britt Heden (77-78).
Stirling’s David Smith, bidding for a unique hat-trick of titles in the event, took closer order on the leaders with one round to go in the men's championship at the same venue.
Smith, second in 2002 and then winner after marathon play-offs in both 2003 and 2004, had a 76 for 154 – still six shots behind three joint leaders, including Roy Smethurst from Crewe, the man he beat at the fifth extra hole in a sudden-death play-off last year.
Leading Scot is Robert Gill with 77 and 76 for 153.
Brian Grieve, from the King James VI club, Perth, dropped back with an 82 for 158.
