ANOTHER BIG PAY DAY FOR CATRIONA
Catriona Matthew from North Berwick earned $82,057 for a third place tie with Laura Davies in the LPGA Tour’s Shoprite Classic at Seaview Resort, New Jersey.
Catriona produced a great last round of seven under par 64 with eight birdies and one bogey, at the 14th, in halves of 32, after rounds of 71 and 66. She and Laura (71-62-68) finished on seven-under-par 201 – five behind winner Annika Sorenstam (67-64-64) and one behind second-placed Juli Inkster (65-67-68).
Annika’s prize amounted to $210,000.
Catriona had an average driving distance of 245yd during the tournament but it was her putting that put her into contention. She had only 65 putts for the 54 holes, an average between 21 and 22 around.
Mrs Matthew has now earned $371,806 from 11 events this season and had five top-10 finishes.
Janice Moodie tied 13th with 73, 70 and 67 for 210. She earned $20,392.
Kathryn Marshall came 51st equal with 74, 68 and 76 for 218. Her reward was $4,539.
The last of the Scots who qualified for the final round – Mhairi McKay had scores of 79, 67 and 74 for 220 and joint 62nd place. She earned a cheque for $3,247.
