NORTH VETS CHAMPIONSHIP

SMART WORK BY ANN
Banchory’s Ann Smart won the North Veteran Ladies Golf Association championship for the first time at Aboyne Golf Club on Tuesday.
She beat Ros Dunsmuir, the Aberdeenshire women’s county vice-captain from Cruden Bay, by 3 and 1 in the final after being all square the turn. A birdie putt at the 15th by Ann to go two up was the decisive point in a closely-contested match.
Ann goes forward to the Scottish Vets’ championship quarter-finals at Blairgowrie at the end of September.
In the morning semi-finals, Ann’s opponent and Banchory clubmate, Morag Clapperton, the Aberdeenshire county champion, had to retire after nine holes with a sore leg. In the other tie Ros beat Frances Neish (Murcar) by 2 and 1.
Wendy Davidson (Deeside) won the Bronze Division championship with a 5 and 4 win over Cathy Kane (Newmachar) in the final.

Silver division championship - Semi-finals – R Dunsmuir (Cruden Bay) bt F Neish (Murcar) 2 and 1, A Smart (Banchory) bt M Clapperton (Banchory), retired after nine holes. Final – Smart bt Dunsmuir 3 and 1.
Bronze division championship – Semi-finals – W Davidson (Deeside) bt I Clark (Aberdeen Ladies) 3 and 2, C Kane (Newmachar) bt S Craig (Cruden Bay) 3 and 2. Final – Davidson bt Kane 5 and 4.
