EUROPEAN GIRLS' TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

GOLF COPY AND RESULTS
SCOTLAND LOSE TO ENGLAND
England beat Scotland 3 ½-1 ½ in the first round of the match-play stages of the European girls’ team golf championships at Lucerne Golf Club, Switzerland today.
Scotland trailed 2-0 after the foursomes with Carly Booth (Comrie) and Sally Watson (Elie & Earlsferry) losing by 3 and 2 to Kiran Matharu and Melissa Reid while Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) and Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar) went down by a similar margin to Jodi Ewart and Emma Sheffield.
Carly Booth halved with Kiran Matharu in the top singles but Jodi Ewart ensured victory for England by beating Sally Watson 4 and 3.
Scotland won the third and last singles tie with Krystle Caithness beating Melissa Reid 3 and 2.
The best the Scots can do now is to finish fifth. They now play Spain, the No 1 qualifiers, who were surprisingly beaten 3-2 by Wales who won the foursomes 2-0 and then got the singles win they needed from Sahra Hassan.
Ireland, who did not figure among the eight championship-flight qualifiers, were beaten 3-2 by Austria in the Second Flight.
