WOMEN'S HOME INTERNATIONALS END

SCOTS BEAT WALES BUT ENGLAND
ARE CHAMPIONS AT DUNDALK

Scotland beat Wales 6-3 in their final match of the women’s home amateur golf internationals at Dundalk, Ireland today but two wins out of three was not enough to make them champions.
That honour was earned by England who, after beating Wales on Wednesday and then Scotland on Thursday, completed a 100 % successful campaign with a 5 ½-3 ½ win over Ireland.
The Irish had been seeking an historic third title win in a row. Instead they lost all three matches and finished bottom of the table.
The Scots led 2-1 over Wales at lunchtime – the first time in three days they had won a foursomes series – and then emphasised their superiority by winning four of the six singles.
Kylie Walker, 19-year-old Stirling University student and Buchanan Castle member, finished off her week by beating Sahra Hassan 6 and 5. It was Kylie’s fifth win in six ties, which made her the most successful player in the Scotland camp.
She was closely followed by Krystle Caithness, 16-year-old St Regulus member. Krystle beat Kim Boulden to finish with four points out of six.
Jenna Wilson (Strathaven), who did well in the No 1 singles position, came next with ½ pt.
Skipper Fiona Anderson did not gave a game over the six sessions of play to 14-year-old Scottish girls’ match-play champion Sally Watson (Elie & Earlsferry).
England’s Sophie Walker was the only player from all four teams to win all six of her games.
England have now won the home internationals’ title 11 times since Scotland were last champions – in 1990 and 1991.
Next year’s matches will be played on English soil – Frilford Heath Golf Club, Oxfordshire.
