KELLY DOWN THE FIELD IN HER
DEBUT FOR COLORADO STATE
Kelly Brotherton has still to set the heather on fire in the United States since joining the Colorado State University women’s golf team after the summer holidays.
Kelly could not make the team for their first few competitions of the new college golf season. She made her debut this week in the Heather Farr Memorial tournament at Omni Interlocken Resort, Colorado – and finished tied for 45th place with scores of 84, 74 and 76 for an 18-over-par total of 234.
That was 19 shots behind the individual winner, Emily Hoeper (Denver) who shot 75, 72 and 68 for 215 – one shot ahead of Rene Skidmore (Idaho) (72-72-72).
Denver (884) won the team event by 13 shots from Fresno State. Colorado State (927) were down in 11th place.
The Colorado State women’s team coach will not have been impressed with her players’ showing in this prestigious event … not one player in the top 20 and a poor team showing as well.
… BUT ADAM LINDSAY LANDS ON
HIS FEET AT IOWA WESLEYAN
Adam Lindsay from Banchory has made a good impression since his arrival in early September at Iowa Wesleyan College at Mount Pleasant, Burlington.
The Banchory club champion – and conqueror of 1999 Open champion Paul Lawrie in an exhibition match this past summer – has already won an 18-hole event, shooting a six-under-par tournament record of 66 with eight birdies in halves of 32 and 34.
It was the first individual event winner in the three years that Ted Peetz has been the Iowan Wesleyan College golf coach.
Adam and fellow-Scot Stuart Geddes have lifted Iowa Wesleyan College into one of the leading golf sides in the Midwest Classic Conference.
Earlier this week, in the Midweek Classic Conference tournament at Valley Oaks, Clinton, Stuart Geddes tied for sixth place with 78 and 76 for 154.
Adam Lindsay was joint eighth with 76 and 79 for 155.
Iowa Wesleyan (623) finished fourth in the team event behind winners St Ambrose (605).
Adam is on a four-year golf scholarship course studying sports and sports coaching.
