ENGLISH SENIORS' CHAMPIONSHIP
CHRISTINE STIRLING DEFENDS TITLE
Hampshire's Christine Stirling will defend her title when the Senior English Ladies' close amateur stroke-play championship is played at Hillside Golf Club on June 6 and 7..
The two-handicapper from Meon Valley is among 99 players who have entered the 36-hole championship.
They include the new English seniors' champion, Christine Watson (Beaconsfield), who will be aiming to complete a double with a win in this event.
The field ranges in handicap from the scratch golfer and former champion, Carole Caldwell (Sunningdale) to players off 13.
The field will compete over the par-75 ladies' course at Hillside, which measures 5,919yd and they will play one round on each day of the championship. Competitors will be divided into two divisions: plus to six handicap and seven and over.
This is the first time ELGA has run this championship following the merger with the English Senior Ladies' Golf Association at the end of last year.
As a result, ELGA now runs an extended tournament schedule for senior ladies. These events are open to all its members aged over 50.
