STEPHEN ELLIS WINS SCOTTISH SENIORS

STEPHEN ELLIS WINS SCOTTISH SENIORS' TITLE

Stephen Ellis, a 59-year-old from Yorkshire who now lives in Cowal , won the Scottish seniors' open amateur stroke-play championship on a final day of fluctuating fortunes at Ranfurly Castle.

American John Baldwin posted the clubhouse target of 225 early in the afternoon after a third-round 69, the lowest score of the tournament.

Only one of the later finishers was able to beat Baldwin's score – Ellis, a Scotland senior international team member, who finished with a 75 for 224.

Defending champion Gordon MacDonald (Callander) posted a final score of 75 to be one of four players who matched John Baldwin's aggregate of 225. The American was officially placed second because he had the lowest last round.

Overnight leader Jim Watt (Edzell) finished a creditable seventh with a 79 for 227.
