EAGLE PUTS RAMSAY IN  HUNT AT WHITEKIRK

 

Carnoustie’s Eric Ramsay achieved a tremendous eagle 3 to be in second place at the finish the wind-delayed first round of the Kronenbourg Classic, this week’s event on the PGA EuroPro Tour, at Whitekirk Golf Club, East Lothian

Ramsay shot a 70 which was mainly a mixture of birdies and bogeys. He birdied the second, eighth, 12^th and 13^th but dropped shots at the fourth, fifth, 10^th and short 14^th. Then came the eagle 3 at the 572yd par-5 15^th which put him right on the tail of leader Phil Rowe from Trevose.

Rowe was one of the stars of the GB&I Walker Cup win over the United States at Nairn in 1999 when he won all three of his ties.

Rowe had an eagle, two birdies and a solitary bogey in posting a three-under-par 69.

Fraser Mann (Musselburgh), Graham Rankin (Drumpellier) and England’s Scott Jackson and Andrew Paisley were all on the on the 71 mark.

The second round was begun this evening but will not be completed until Friday morning, at which point there will be a cut. The leading 50 and ties will play a final 18 holes.
