DEFENDING CHAMPIONS LANARKSHIRE LOSE

THEIR OPENING TIE TO RENFREWSHIRE

 

Title-holders Lanarkshire lost their opening match of the West Division women’s inter-county golf team championship at East Renfrewshire Golf Club today.

They lost 5 ½-3 ½ to Renfrewshire after sharing the foursomes 1 ½-1 ½.

Lanarkshire made a sound start to the afternoon singles with victories for Jenna Wilson and Alexandra Young.

Renfrewshire turned the tables by taking the last four ties with wins for Clare-Marie Carlton, Donna Jackson, Lesley Robertson and Gillian Kyle

Highlight of Dunbartonshire & Argyll’s 6-3 win over Ayrshire was a winning comeback – after 27 years! – by former Curtis Cup star Suzanne Cadden (Cardross).

Suzanne beat Morag McPherson (Turnberry) by 6 and 5. She was one of four D&A winners in the singles after the morning foursomes were shared.

Foursomes: A Laing & S Bishop halved with C Malcolm & D Watt; J Galbraith & F McLean lost to L Hendry & R Kennedy 5 and 4; G Webster & K Walker bt A Glennie & L Keohone 5 and 3 (1 ½-1 ½).

Singles: Walker halved with Hendry, Laing bt Kennedy 6 and 4, Bishop bt Malcolm 3 and 2, J Foggo lost to A Thompson 3 and 2, S Cadden bt M McPherson 6 and 5, Webster bt Watt 3 and 2 (4  ½-1 ½ )

 

RENFREWSHIRE 5 ½, LANARKSHIRE 3 1/2

 

Foursomes: D Jackson & G Kyle lost to J Wilson & S Wood 2 and 1; J Jenkins & C-M Carlton halved with E Cuthill & A Young; M Briggs & K O’Sullivan bt M Hughes & A Hendry 1 hole (1 ½-1 ½).

Singles: Briggs lost to Wilson 6 and 5, O’Sullivan lost to Young 1 hole, Carlton bt Cuthill 4 and 3, Jackson bt Wood 3 and 2, L Robertson bt L Lloyd 3 and 1, Kyle bt R Rankin 1 hole (4-2).
