EUROPEAN BOYS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

SCOTLAND LYING SECOND BEHIND SWEDEN

Scotland were lying second behind host nation Sweden at the end of the first qualifying round in the European boys’ team championship over a difficult course at Bokskogens Golf Club.

The Scots totalled 14 over par – six behind the Swedes – but enough to hold down the No 2 spot ahead of Belgium (+15), Norway and Portugal (both +16).

Surprisingly, Spain could do no better than +17 while England would have been very disappointed to be well off the pace in 10th place on +23.

Only the leading eight teams after the second qualifying round will contest the championship match-play stages.

Ross Kellett top-scored for the Scots with a 73 while James Byrne and James White were only a shot behind and Lewis Kirton came in with a 75.
