KIRTON AND KELLETT STAR FOR SCOTS
BOYS AS THEY QUALIFY FOURTH
Lewis Kirton and Ross Kellett were the top performers as Scotland qualified in fourth place for the top match-play flight of the European boys’ team championship at Bokskogens Golf Club, Sweden today.
Kirton had a 70, Kellett a 72 and Cameron Gray a 75. Scottish boys’ match-play champion James White had a 77, Michael Stewart a 78 while James Byrne was off his game on the day with an 81.
Scotland qualified with a team score of 26 over par for the 36-hole qualifying test.
Host nation Sweden used their local knowledge to earn the top seed rating with a combined total of 13 over par. Norway (+19) were second and Spain (+25) third.
Scotland will play fifth qualifiers Belgium (+28) in the first round.
England (+40) failed to qualify for the championship flight which meant that two of the four England teams in action in this week’s European championships failed to figure among the leading eight qualifiers. Their girls’ team suffered a similar fate in the Netherlands.
