CATRIONA MATTHEW HAS A FIRST-ROUND 74

 

Catriona Matthew had a three-over-par 74 over a very tough course to be occupying joint 39^th place at the end of the delayed first round in the US Women’s Open at Newport, Rhode Island.

Annika Sorenstam is joint leader with Pat Hurst, Se Ri Park and Jane Park on two-under 69.

Becky Morgan from Wales is sharing fifth place on 70 with a number of players included amateur Amanda Blumenhirst, a member of the US Curtis Cup team for the match against GB&I on July 29-30. Michele Wie also had a 70.

England’s Karen Stupples had a 78, one better than Laura Davies.

Mhairi McKay was back in a share of 136^th place with an 80.
