TWO SCOTS IN WINNING CLAYTON
STATE UNIVERSITY TEAM

Madras College former pupil Daniel Sommerville has brought a change of luck to the Clayton State University, Atlanta men’s college golf team.
In only his second outing for the side, Daniel this week helped Clayton State – “The Lakers” – win the Orchard Fall Invitational tournament at Orchard Golf and Country Club, Clarkesville in Georgia.
Clayton State’s last team title victory was in the North Alabama Spring Classic of 2000.
Daniel was one of three players in the team to score in the 70s. He finished fourth overall with a 75. Senior team-mate Matt Beale figured in a triple tie for the individual title on one-under-par 71 before losing a play-off.
The third and fourth members of the Clayton State team were Mathias Carlander who had a 76 and Neil McBride from Glasgow. Neil’s 81 was in its own way just as important as Daniel’s because it gave Clayton State a winning total of 303 in the one-round event – two shots ahead of Piedmont College and 10 ahead of third-placed Rheinhardt College.
Daniel was named in the "All-Tournament Team" - denoting he was regarded as one of the best players in the event.
