ENGLAND LEAD IN SCHOOLS INTERNATIONAL
AFTER MORNING FOURSOMES
England were beating Scotland 3 ½-2 ½ in the boys’ match and 2-1 in the girls’ encounter at Hillside Golf Club, Lancashire today in the annual schools international.
Ross Bell (Harris Academy) & Joshua Clarke (Montrose Academy) were in good form and had established a five-hole lead by the turn in their tie against Martin Anderson and Lee Heaton. Ross and Joshua went on to win by 6 and 5.
Scotland’s other boys’ foursomes winers, Alan Murdoch (Stranraer Academy) and Chris Robinson (Douglas Ewart High) were also five up at the turn against Rory Kirwan and Andrew Smedley and held off a fightback by the English pair to win by 3 and 1.
In the girls’ match, Krystle Caithness (Waid Academy) and Rachael Livingstone (Musselburgh Grammar) beat Hannah Barwood and Kym Larratt by 3 and 2 in the top foursome but Scotland lost the two other ties.
Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Academy) and Rebecca Wilson (Monifieth High) lost on the 18th green but Jane Turner (George Watson’s College) and Megan Briggs (Gryffe High) were beaten 5 and 3.
