SENIOR BRITISH WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
CHRISTINE OPENS UP SIX-SHOT LEAD WITH
ONE ROUND TO CO AND DUMFRIES & CO
The second round of the Senior British women's open amateur championship was completed at Dumfries & County Golf Club this morning.
Yesterday, when the course became waterlogged, play had to be suspended with 27 players still to complete their second rounds.
The computer forecast overnight that the cut for the 40 leading players and ties would fall at 170 and so it proved. A total of 41 players with scores of 170 or better went out again to contest the final round of the 54-hole championship.
Barring unforeseen disasters, it looked as if Hampshire player Christine Quinn had one hand on the championship trophy. She had a second-round 75 for a tally of two-over par 146, which meant she started the final round with a six shot lead from two Swedish players, Christina Birke and Viveka Hoff. Mrs Birke was the championin 2003 while Viveka was runner-up last year.
The leading Scot was still Moira Thomson (North Berwick) She had a 78 to be lying sixth on 156.
