SLGA COMMONWEALTH SPOONS

LANARKSHIRE’S PAT AND ANNE WIN
COMMONWEALTH SPOONS IN TIGHT FINISH

Lanarkshire’s Pat Casey and Anne Lloyd won the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association Commonwealth Spoons final at Loudoun Gowf Club, Ayrshire in one of the tightest finishes in the history of the tournament.
Half-a-stroke covered the first five pairs in the handicap prize list. Pat and Anne’s net 72 off 15 of a handicap was matched by Jackie Brown and Lynn Fenton (Angus) (4) and also Fiona Brawley and Francis Craig (Ayrshire) (12).
A comparison of inward halves placed Pat and Anne (back in 33) ahead of Jackie and Lynne (34) and Fiona and Francis (also 34). To separate the second and third, it was necessary to go down to the last six holes.
So close a contest was it that Jennifer Gough and Jennifer Alexander (Dunbartonshire & Argyll), playing off 18 ½, finished fourth with 72 ½ - and yet, had Jennifer holed a putt on the last green, they would have finished with a net total of 71 1/2 which would have won the competition.
Scottish international player Kylie Walker and her mother Elizabeth (Dunbartonshire & Agryll) finished fifth with the same score but a poorer inward half than the two Jennifers.

Heavy overnight rain flooded the 18th green but the local greenstaff did such a good job of mopping up that play was able to start on at 9.30am. A total of 45 couples took part.
