WOMEN'S HOME INTERNATIONALS
HEATHER AND SALLY SAVE VITAL POINT FOR SCOTLAND
Scotland lost the foursomes 2-1 to Wales on the opening morning of the women's home internationals at Frilford Heath, Oxfordshire.
Martine Pow and Sara Bishop lost by 4 and 3 to Tara Davies and Rebecca Harries after losing holes eight, ninth, 10, 12 and 15.
Jenna Wilson and Roseanne Niven went down by 3 and 2 to Jo Nicolson and Katherine O'Connor. The Welsh pair won the 12th, 15th and 16th for victory.
That put the onus on Scotland's lead-off pairing of Heather MacRae and 15-year-old Sally Watson to avoid a whitewash 3-0 defeat in the foursomes.
The Scots won the second, fourth, sixth and seventh - and then the Welsh pair took over. Breanne Loucks and young Sahra Hassan won back the eighth, 10th and 16th.
But Heather and Sally kept their nerve and halved the 17th before winning the 18th for a two-hole win.
Defending champions England took a 2 1/2-1/2 lead over Ireland.
