LET QUALIFYING SCHOOL STAGE 1
JENNA (70) STARTS WELL BUT HEATHER
(76) RUNS UP TWO DOUBLE BOGEYS
Jenna Wilson has made a good start but her Scotland amateur team-mate Heather MacRae struggled a bit on the opening day of the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School Stage 1 tournament at Golf Club Le Fonti at Castle San Pietro Terme in Italy today.
Sophie Walker from Keswick Park set the pace with a sparkling six-under-par 66.
Jenna from Strathaven is sharing seventh place going into the second round after a two-under-par 70 which included birdies at the sixth, seventh, 10th, 13th and 18th in halves of 35.
She marred her five-birdie card with a double-bogey at the 16th. The only other shot Miss Wilson dropped to par was at the eighth.
Heather is in joint 62nd place after a four-over-par 76. The field will be cut to the leading 65 and ties after three rounds and from the final totals, the leading 43 and ties will join those exempt from Stage 1 to make up a field of 90 for the Final Q School at La Cala Golf Resort on the Costa del Sol in Spain from November 22 to 26.
Miss MacRae from Dunblane had two double bogeys in halves of 39 and 37 – at the third and 15th. She also dropped single shots at the first, fifth and 18th.
On the bright side, the Curtis Cup reserve had birdies at the second, 12th and 14th.
