CALLUM CRIPPLED BY EARLY TRIPLE
BOGEY AT PINEHURST
Callum Macaulay (Mississippi University) had a disappointing second round of 77 over the 7,035yd, par-72 Pinehurst No 8 course in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate tournament in North Carolina where, for the second morning in a row, frost delayed the start by a couple of hours.
Macaulay was unable to recover from the body blow of a triple bogey 7 as early as the third hole.
In a birdie-less round, the young man from Tulliallan bogeyed the 11th and 18th in halves of 39 and 38 for a 36-hole tally of 151 and a share of 30th place in a field of 96 players.
With one round to go, Jorge Campillo (Indiana) leads at four-under-par 140 after rounds of 73 and 67.
Indiana and Michigan share the team lead on 590 with Southern Methodist (592) third.
Mississippi (598) are one shot behind fourth-placed Penn State but only one stroke ahead of sixth-placed Wisconsin in a field of 18 teams.
