PORTIA JOINT FOURTH IN ALABAMA
SHOOTOUT, ONLY TWO OFF TOP SPOT
Portia Abbot (Jacksonville State University) from Wiltshire finished joint fourth in the Birmingham Southern Shootout women's college golf tournament at Bent Brook Golf Club, McCalla in Alabama.
Portia, pictured right, had two rounds of 75 over the 6,212yd, par-72 course for a total of 150 - two shots behind the joint winners, Jill Stupiansky (Birmingham Southern) (73-75) and Sara Marti (South Alabama) (76-72).
Birmingham Southern (600) won the team event by 14 shots from Jacksonville State with Arkansas State (619) third of 21 teams.
This was the Jacksonville State women's team's first competition since Michele Thomson cut short her four-year course to return for good to Ellon, Aberdeenshire.
The only Scot still on JSU's roster is former Scottish Under-21 champion Louise Fleming from Kelso. Louise has been ruled out of the 2006-2007 college golf season due to a back injury.
