PORTIA MAKES TOP 10 IN ALABAMA

Portia Abbot from Wiltshire, a sophomore student at Jacksonville State University, Alabama finished joint 10th of 84 in the Samford University Intercollegiate women's tournament at Timberline Golf Club, Calera in Alabama.
Portia, pictured right, had rounds of 75, 76 and 78 for a total of 229 over the 5,823yd, par-71 course. Shirley Harvey (Southern Alabama), a sophmore student from Belfast, shared 18th place on 239 with rounds of 79, 74 and 79.
The winner was Lorie Warren (Belmont) with 77, 74 and 72 for 223.
Shirley Harvey did figure on the winning team. Southern Alabama totalled 915 to edge out Eastern Kentucky by a single shot over 54 holes - and you can't get much closer than that.
Belmont (926) were third and Jacksonville State (928) fourth of 14 teams.
