BUT STILL MAKES TOP TEN AT

Callum Macaulay, in his final month or two of a four-year course at Mississippi University, finished joint ninth in the Southeast Conference men’s college championship at Sea Island Golf Club, Georgia.
The Tulliallan Golf Club member must have been pressing too hard to produce results for he had an uncharacteristic five double bogeys over the 54 holes. Three of them came in his final round of three-over-par 73.
He had 6s at the par-4 eighth, 14th and 18th which wiped out the birdies he achieved at the sixth, seventh, 15th and 17th.
The Scot’s earlier rounds were 75 and 71, giving him a total of nine-over-par 219 over a tough par-70 course (6,991yd) where even the winner, Patton Kizzire (Auburn) was over par, returning 72, 69 and70 for 211 and a four-stroke advantage over a field of 60.
It may have been some consolation for Callum that he had three of the recently announced United States college team for the Palmer Cup match against Europe – Billy Horschel, Chris Kirk and Luke List – behind him in the final standings.
Chris Paisley (Tennessee) from Newcastle and team-mate Tino Weirr finished joint runners-up on 215. Paisley shot 76, 70 and 69.
Not surprisingly, Tennessee (869) won the team title from Alabama (871) with Auburn (874) third and Mississippi fourth (876) in a field of 12 college squads.
