EXPERIENCE HAS ITS DAY IN ANGUS
COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP AT PANMURE
Experience triumphed over youth in the early match-play stages of the Angus women’s county golf championship to the extent that only one of the semi-finalists when the competition resumes at Panmure Golf Club, Carnoustie on Sunday will be under the age of 50.
Former Scottish girls championship finalist Fiona Gilbert (Carnoustie Ladies), the No 2 seed, is the exception. She will play former Scottish seniors champion Kathlee Sutherland (Royal Montrose), the No 11 qualifier, while top seed Heather Anderson (Downfield) will meet the No 12 qualifier, Lynne Fotheringham (Grange), conqueror of defending champion Jane Tough (Brechin) in the quarter-finals..
Mrs Anderson has only recently back to the Angus area after living down south for many years. She’s recently married and newly retired.
In the handicap championship, the “young pups” redressed the balance with Ailsa Summers (Panmure Barry) and Fiona Blair (Monifieth) winning through to battle it out in the top half of the draw.
