Leuchars-based Fiona Lockhart (St Regulus) won the Fife women’s county golf championship at Dunfermline Golf Club today.
This is the second time that Fiona, a member of the Scottish Golf Union staff at Drumoig, has won the Fife title. The last time – two years ago – she went on to complete a notable double by winning the Scottish women’s title at Cruden Bay a few weeks later.
In this morning's semi-finals, Fiona, the No 6 seed, was taken to the 18th green before beating Lesley Rolland (Dunfermline) by two holes, but in the afternoon final, against Scottish senior international Lorna Bennett (Ladybank), the No 8 qualifier, Fiona stepped up a gear to win by 6 and 4.
Miss Lockhart, pictured above with the trophy, was one under par in the final with two birdies and one bogey. Lorna struggled a bit on the greens.
