LUCY GOULD JOINT 12TH IN
ATLANTIC SUN
WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
Former Welsh girls champion Lucy Gould (East Tennessee State) returned a five-over-par 77 to be in joint 12th place after the opening round of the 54-hole Atlantic Sun Women’s Conference Championship over the Keith Hills No 1 course at Buies Creek, North Carolina.
Lucy, pictured right, had birdies at the sixth, 12th, 14th and 18th in halves of 40 (four over par) and 37 (one over).
She spoiled her card with a double-bogey 6 at the ninth and also dropped single shots at the first, second, seventh, 10th, 11th, 15th and 17th.
Lucy’s team-mate, Irish international Sinead O’Sullivan had an 80 to be in joint 22nd position in the field of 40 players.
Sinead had halves of 38 and 42. She had a quadruple bogey 8 at the 10th
Monica Kelsey (Mercer University) and Alejandra Shaw (Campbell University) set the first-round lead on 73, one over par for the 6,012yd course.
Campbell (296) lead the team event from Mercer (302) and Stetson (307) with East Tennessee State (312) fourth of the eight teams.
