JENNY MILNE WINS NORTHERN COUNTIES
WOMEN’S GOLF TITLE AT LAST

Experienced Elgin player Jenny Milne won the Northern Counties women’s golf championship for the first time at Royal Dornoch Golf Club today (Monday) when she beat the No 1 qualifier, Donna MacLeod (Inverness) by 3 and 2 in the final.
“I’ve lost count of the number of finals I’ve lost – it could be four or five – so I’m really pleased to have won the Mary Benton Trophy at last,” said Jenny, the No 2 seed, although she had the same qualifying score as Donna.
Donna had the edge on the way out and was one up at the turn but Miss Milne never looked back after winning the 10th to square the contest. When Miss MacLeod’s short game let her down over the closing holes, Jenny was able to win the 12th, 15th and 16th and halve the 17th for victory.
The handicap championship for the Chetham Trophy was won by 13-year-old Julie Vass (Tain) who beat Marion MacKay (Wick), 45 years her senior, by 7 and 5 in the final. Julie plays off 16 and Marion eight.
