NIGHTMARE OUTWARD HALF FOR FIONA
IN ENGLISH SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP

Blairgowrie-born Fiona Anderson had a nightmare outward half of 48 on her way to finishing joint 22nd in the qualifying rounds of the English senior women’s closed amateur golf championship over 36 holes at Delamere Forest Golf Club today.
Fiona, who has lived in North-west England for a number of years and is a member of Formby Ladies, had rounds of 80 and 85 for 165.
Miss Anderson, who played in five Scottish women’s finals between 1980 and 1991 and won her native title in 1987, finished 19 shots behind the No 1 match-play qualifier by eight strokes, Susan Dye, who scored 72 and 73 for a one-over-par total of 145 over her home course.
In the second round,Fiona had five double bogeys before the turn but then reeled off eight pars and one bogey to come home in 37.
