BANGOR ACADEMY WIN ALL-IRELAND SCHOOLS GIRLS GOLF
Bangor Academy’s Victoria Bradshaw and Sarah Louise Winter won the All-Ireland Schools Girls’ Golf Championships at Milltown Golf Club.
Bangor Academy led from the very start with Bradshaw turning in one under par. However, a couple of wayward tee shots on the back nine saw her encounter tree trouble but her final score of three-over-par 76 earned her the Mary Nowlan Trophy for the best round of the day. Nearest challengers St Flannan’s College were just four strokes behind with girls’ international Sarah Cunningham carding a brave 79.
Dundalk Grammar School’s Carla Reynolds looked best to challenge the leaders when she turned in level par but three double bogeys on the inward stretch cost her dearly in her round of 79.
Milltown’s testing par-73 ladies course, which proved a stiff challenge for the five pairs of district winners, will also play host to the Suzuki Ladies Senior Cup Finals in September – another ILGU tournament in the club’s busy year of Centenary celebrations.
