FOUR TOP SEEDS MAKE IT THROUGH TO
ABERDEENSHIRE SEMI-FINALS


The four top seeds in the Aberdeenshire women’s county golf champion – leading qualifier Laura Murray (Alford), Sara Thomson (Murcar Links), Michele Thomson (McDonald Ellon) and Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies) – have all won their way through to Sunday morning’s semi-finals over the Newmachar Hawkshill course.
Sara Thomson and Sheena Wood had to go into extra holes to clinch their places in the last four.
Sara, the No 2 seed, was all square with clubmate Carol Wilson after 18 holes. At the first extra hole, Sara holed a 30ft birdie putt for victory and now plays namesake, Michele Thomson, for a place in the final.
Sheena Wood, several times winner of the title over the years, squared her quarter-final against Laura McLardy (Murcar Links) with a birdie 3 at the 18th. Then the 19th was halved in birdies with Laura pitching in from 50yd. Sheena finally prevailed at the 21st to earn a tie against the top seed, Laura Murray (Alford).

First round – L Murray (Alford) bt C Neish (Kintore) 3 and 2, M Millership (Deeside) bt J Harrison (Cruden Bay) 1 hole, L McLardy (Murcar Links) bt F Hay (Deeside) 3 and 2, S Wood (Aberdeen Ladies) bt L Terry (Cruden Bay) 3 and 2, M Thomson (McDonald Ellon) bt D McKinnon (McDonald Ellon), J Murray (Cruden Bay) bt G Melvin (Hazlehead) 2 and 1, C Wilson (Murcar Links) bt D Pocock (Murcar Links) 2 and 1, S Thomson (Murcar Links) bt S Leslie (Westhill) 2 holes.
Quarter-finals – L Murray bt Millership 4 and 3, Wood bt McLardy at 21st, M Thomson bt J Murray 8 and 6, S Thomson bt C Wilson at 19th.
