JILL (14) YOUNGEST EVER WINNER OF
DUNBARTONSHIRE & ARGYLL TITLE


Dullatur Golf Club 14-year-old junior member Jill Meldrum today (Wed) became the youngest ever winner of the county title in the 98-year-history of the Dunbartonshire & Argyll women’s county golf association.
In the final at Milngavie Golf Club, Jill, winner of the Scottish Under-14 girls’ title at Deeside last summer, beat Scotland senior international Anna Telfer, playing over her home course, by 4 and 3. Anna is also ladies captain at Milngavie.
Jill, pictured right with the trophy, had been the No 1 seed while Anna was the third-best qualifier.
In the morning semi-finals, Jill won by 6 and 5 over Babs Robertson (Helensburgh) while Anna beat the No 2 seed, Helen Faulds (Douglas Park), another over-50s Scotland team player, with a birdie at the 18th.
Eleanor Starling (Balmore), the No 1 seed, beat No 2 qualifier Denise Harrow (Hilton Park) by 5 and 4 in the final of the Bronze Division championship.

SCRATCH – Semi-finals – J Meldrum (Dullatur) bt B Robertson (Helensburgh) 6 and 5, A Telfer (Milngavie) bt H Faulds (Douglas Park) 1 hole. Final – Meldrum bt Telfer 4 and 3.
BRONZE DIVISION – Final – E Starling (Balmore) bt D Harrow (Hilton Park) 5 and 4.
