JODI IS 11 SHOTS BEHIND DUTCH GIRL
AFTER BIRDIE-LESS SECOND ROUND
Jodi Ewart reeled off nine straight pars to finish her second round of 76 in the NCAA Division 1 women’s championship over the LPGA International’s Legends course at Daytona Beach, Florida.
Unfortunately for the Yorkshire girl, who has been an outstanding freshman member of the New Mexico University golf team through the 2006-2007 college season, you need birdies to beat a field of this calibre. And Jodi did not have any sub-par figures on Tuesday, only bogeys at the first, sixth, eighth and ninth in an outward 40.
Catterick Golf Club member Jodi’s 36-hole tally of 152 sees her in joint 36th place at the halfway stage, 11 strokes behind Christel Boeljon (Purdue) from the Netherlands.
The Dutch girl, who has entered next month’s British women’s open amateur championship at Alwoodley, has had rounds of 72 and 69 for 141.
The only other player in the field to have broken 70 is surprise first-round leader Selanee Henderson (UC Irvine). But everything went wrong for her in a second-round 80 for 150.
Belen Mojo (Southern California), who will be defending that British women’s title at Leeds (remember, she also won the British girls’ title last summer, had the same sort of “bad day at the office” as Selanee – a second-round 80 for 155.
The best placed Continental is another past winner of the British girls’ title, Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist (Arizona State). She is sharing eighth place on 145 with scores of 75 and 70.
