RYAN TRIUMPHS IN BBC COMPETITION
AND WINS TRIP TO MURRAYSHALL G C
Ryan Allen-Varney claimed the BBC London Junior Golf Competition prize at the London Golf Show.
Ryan took just 10 putts to complete the six-hole challenge in front of a large crowd on the show’s six-hole putting course.
Three youngsters fought their way through qualifying heats after entering a competition on BBC Radio London.
The 16-year-old from Potters Bar, in Hertfordshire, has been playing golf since he was four, but has never won anything like this before.
The Justin Rose fan will be off to Murrayshall Golf Club, near Perth later this summer, taking his mum Frances and younger brother Gregg for a four-day golf break, courtesy of VisitScotland.
While north of the border, Ryan, who plays regularly at Potters Bar and Brookmans Park Golf Clubs, will get lessons from head pro Alan Reid, before taking place in a challenge match with former Scottish amateur champion Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie) who plays off plus five.
Glenn works as a greenkeeper at Murrayshall so will have home advantage.
Ryan, who plays to an unofficial handicap of six, is looking forward to his trip north of the border.
