TOP MARKS FOR STUDENT LAURA IN
SHIRE WOMEN’S QUALIFYING ROUND
Robert Gordon’s University student Laura Murray was top of the class at the Aberdeenshire women's county championship qualifying round over the Newmachar Hawkshill course this evening.
The 18-year-old from Alford, who lowered her handicap to scratch during the week with a 68 at Aboyne, led the 16 qualifiers for the county match-play stages with a 74, one over par but two under the CSS for the competition.
Laura, pictured right, won the North of Scotland girls title at Kirriemuir and the Ness Open at Inverness last year. Miss Murray won the Scottish schoolgirls’ title at St Andrews Bay in 2005, the year she reached the final of the Aberdeenshire county championship.
She had two shots to spare over a surprise No 2 seed for the championship, another student, Sara Thomson (Murcar Links), who is a talented hockey player.
